Summary

A wife。 A mistress。 A week away with no escape…

As my girlfriends and I sip wine and share secrets in the flickering candlelight of our remote Scottish hideaway, we all agree we need this break。 Every morning we will swim in icy cold lochs and hike to remote beaches and each night we will sip wine and share stories, cosy beside the log burner。 It will be a break none of us will ever forget。

But behind my warm smile, there is ice in my heart。 One of my friends is my husband’s lover, and it’s only a matter of time before I discover which one。 She thinks she has me fooled, but she’s not the only one with secrets。

I don’t let my smile slip, but as I get closer to the truth, it becomes very clear that in these remote Scottish hills, far from help, someone is going to pay for their lies with their life…

A completely gripping and addictive page turner。 Fans of The Guest List, K。L。 Slater and Jackie Kabler will be utterly hooked on My Husband’s Lover。

I love books that have the perspective of the main character and the “bad guy”。 I especially loved the fact that the bad guy was disguised as a friend, but you didn’t know which friend until the end。 What a fun thriller! I didn’t however expect the book to end like it did。 I was expecting a big showdown, but either way。 I definitely enjoyed this read! I couldn’t wait to get back to it。I highly recommend this book!

😳。 Well my gosh。 That’s some crazy stuff。 Fast moving, suspenseful, drama, lies, a husband you can’t trust and one friend at the center of it all。

Oufff what a ride! The ultimate girls swimming/camping trip turns ugly when one of the women learn her husband is cheating on her with one of the others。 No wifi, middle of the bush, and so much drama。 Had me guessing right until the end!

My Husband’s Lover by Jess RyderThis is such a well written book with a very clever plot。 I found it to be such an easy to read page turner。 The twists got me。 I thought I had it figured out, but nope! I was wrong on several occasions in the book。 Without a doubt I recommend to anyone who loves suspense。 Many thanks to Jess Ryder, NetGalley, and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review。

I enjoyed this book, but didn't love it as much as the author's previous books。The story begins with Sophie, a keen wild swimmer, who is going away for a break to Scotland with several other members of her swimming group, Grace, Ariel, Elise, Keira and Fern。 An idyllic scenario, except that Sophie's husband Ryan has just told her that he has had an affair with one of the group。 And she doesn't know which one。 The premise of this sounded exactly the kind of story that appeals to me and it started I enjoyed this book, but didn't love it as much as the author's previous books。The story begins with Sophie, a keen wild swimmer, who is going away for a break to Scotland with several other members of her swimming group, Grace, Ariel, Elise, Keira and Fern。 An idyllic scenario, except that Sophie's husband Ryan has just told her that he has had an affair with one of the group。 And she doesn't know which one。 The premise of this sounded exactly the kind of story that appeals to me and it started off strong, setting up the scenario and characters。 The wild Scottish scenery was brilliantly captured and I could really picture all the wild lochs and beaches。 For me though, I found it hard to warm to any of the characters, which made it hard to care what happened to them。The writing is cleverly constructed to leave you continually guessing who the mistress was and I have to say I didn't guess。 However I felt the story flagged somewhat about halfway through and when the culprit was revealed and the reason explained, to me, it felt a bit of a let down。Having said this, it was a perfectly good psychological thriller and I'd definitely read more of the author's books。 Thanks to author Jess Ryder, publishers Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

This book keeps you guessing from page 1。 Ryan cheated on his wife Sophie and now she is about to take a vacation with four other women- one of whom is his mistress。 What could go wrong? They’ll be staying in a remote cabin in the Scottish highlands with no electricity, no heat and no WiFi。 Will Sophie make it back alive? Hmm you’ll have to read for yourself。

This is the fifth book I've read by Jess Ryder。 Meet Sophie who is part of a group of swimmers; they are all on a sojourn in the Scottish Highlands。 However, before they leave Sophie who is mum to nine-year-old Ben, learns that her husband, Ryan is having an affair。。。 and his mistress is one of the swimmers。 Tense and exciting, I was really invested in this chilling tale from the off。 There are a few great plot twists and a surprising and shocking ending to delight the reader。 Well worth a look。 This is the fifth book I've read by Jess Ryder。 Meet Sophie who is part of a group of swimmers; they are all on a sojourn in the Scottish Highlands。 However, before they leave Sophie who is mum to nine-year-old Ben, learns that her husband, Ryan is having an affair。。。 and his mistress is one of the swimmers。 Tense and exciting, I was really invested in this chilling tale from the off。 There are a few great plot twists and a surprising and shocking ending to delight the reader。 Well worth a look。This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley。 。。。more

This reminded me a little of those old horror movies where you scream what are you thinking。 LOL but if the character listens, then there wouldn’t be a book。 I guessed at everything in this one and was rarely right。 Who the body was。 Who the mistress was。 Who killed Carly。 In my defense a few twists were really not guessable, but most I was just flat out wrong。 And I changed my mind over and over as I read the Mistress chapters second guessing which “friend” she was。 That is what you want in a t This reminded me a little of those old horror movies where you scream what are you thinking。 LOL but if the character listens, then there wouldn’t be a book。 I guessed at everything in this one and was rarely right。 Who the body was。 Who the mistress was。 Who killed Carly。 In my defense a few twists were really not guessable, but most I was just flat out wrong。 And I changed my mind over and over as I read the Mistress chapters second guessing which “friend” she was。 That is what you want in a twisty thriller, right?I was hooked from the start and the story never let up。 My only gripe is authors need to stop giving likable names to unlikable characters。 Ryan is such a nice guy name to me and I am not spoiling anything by telling you he isn’t。 He’s the husband and the title tells you he’s having an affair。 I liked the angle that the women are swimming buddies that meet once a week, so it was the perfect setup to them not knowing each other all the well。 And I liked the idea of the cold swimming。 I never quite understood a polar bear plunge and when I equate it to a stress relief, I now get it。This is definitely one of my favorites of the month。 I love when I can’t figure anything out。 It keeps me wanting more。 。。。more

This book is a classic definition of a thriller read, full of plot twists, suspense and intensity。 I was so engrossed that I ended up reading late into the night, as I was eager to discover which one of Samatha's friends was the deceitful one and losing track of time。 As the conclusion was revealed, I was delighted that all my suspicions were wrong。 The author keeps the reader guessing, as the perpetrator could have been any of the 'Swimmers'。 The sign of a great thriller, in my opinion! The location was written and described exceptionally well, and if Jess Ryder ever feels like putting her writing pen down, she would make an excellent travel blogger! Her picturesque writing skills are second to none。As expected and assumed, this is a highly recommended five-star read that has been absorbed from beginning to end。 Jess Ryder has quickly become one of my favourite auto-read authors; her books keep improving! I am excited to read more books this author wrote and what is coming next from her。'The Husband's Lover' is out now and is unquestionably a must-read!Thank you, NetGalley, and Bookouture, for a gifted copy。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 There are occasional flashes of great suspense, but also long periods during which fairly little happens。 We also don't get to know the swimmers well enough to care about which one of them was the guilty one。 They seemed a tad interchangeable。 But, still a pleasant read。 3。5 stars。 There are occasional flashes of great suspense, but also long periods during which fairly little happens。 We also don't get to know the swimmers well enough to care about which one of them was the guilty one。 They seemed a tad interchangeable。 But, still a pleasant read。 。。。more

When she showed her husband a picture of her swimming friends, he gets a strange look on his face and then while driving to their cabin, he calls to inform her that one of her friends is the woman he has been sleeping with。 Talk about spoiling a trip。 To top it off, he won’t tell her who his lover is leaving poor Sophie anxious, looking for clues and questioning her friends。 He is obviously not going to be winning the husband of the year award。This was a fun and gripping book。 Like Sophie, I had on my super sleuthing hat, trying to figure out the identity of his lover。 That was the fun part and no, I did not guess the mistress。 But I enjoyed reading as events unfolded and particularly enjoyed how Ryder provided the "voice" of the mistress in the chapters titled "Swimmer"。 Very nicely done。The setting of this book was fantastic and provided a secluded, atmospheric background for Sophie to do her own painful detective work。 I found this book to be well written and nicely paced。 I read this in one day as I did not want to put this book down!Although this book did not make me want to swim in icy cold water, it did make me want to read more of Jess Ryder's books!#MyHusbandsLover #NetGalleyThank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 All the thoughts and opinions are my own。Read more of my reviews at www。openbookposts。com 。。。more

Well I was wrong - but then it turned out I was also right。 And I have mixed feelin I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars here, so let’s just give it 3。5。This was good, but not great。 I’m going to mark this as spoilers because what I have to say could probably be considered spoiler-y but I won’t name names or anything。 So continue at your own risk I guess。 I really thought I had the whole thing pegged。 I thought I knew who “the swimmer” was for sure。 I mean, it’s gonna be the least likely person right?
